When people speak about their experience in dealing with different “systems” in India the common expression is, “things take toooo long”...
Well I can say that, haven travelled a lot and dealt with many other international systems, so far in the last 24 hrs I have been pleasantly surprised. Either, I was prepared for worst or things have changed for the better. May be the key was to have the right paper work along..I got my Index 2 (proof of residency) in less than 10 minutes from my builder and the Airtel cell phone connection was a quick affair too...sure I did make 2 trips to Airtel office, but that was my fault as I didn't take a photograph required for registration in the first visit!
BTW one tip of advice is always have plenty of xerox copies of EVERYTHING :-))

Well, i agree that things take looooooooong sometimes to happen but I believe this is because of the unnecessary workflows + hierarchy ("Red Tape").
I'm sure you'll not be required to be prepared for the worst soon.. :-)
